Exciting Things To Do In Mauritius

Exciting Things To Do In Mauritius

If sitting on a beach all day every day isn’t quite your cup of tea, but you really fancy a long haul holiday to a stunning island destination, Mauritius could be just what you are looking for. With many activities both in and out of the resorts, a luxury holiday in Mauritius can provide interest for a range of visitors.

The island itself is an independent state in the Indian Ocean, 900km east of Madagascar. The area is 1860sq km and is made up of a central plateau, gradually rising towards the South West where it reaches its highest point at 800m.

Excursions around the island will give you an insight into the islands rich and colorful history, and where better to start than the vibrant capital, Port Louis. The harbor on the west of the island lies sheltered in a semi-circle of mountains, and the town has plenty of character and proudly displays signs of its historical past.

If designer shopping outlets are what you are looking for, then a trip to Curepipe is well worth the visit. This is the islands main urban center and is worth a stop if traveling through it on route to somewhere else! It’s located in the center of the island between Port Louis and the airport.

Mahebourg is a village which is worth a visit, especially if staying in the southeast of the island. It’s still one of the islands main fishing villages, and you are at leisure to wander around the market stalls. You can even hire a bicycle and cycle there if you are staying at the Shandrani!

Catamaran Trips can be arranged from most hotels and are an excellent way to see the beauty of Mauritius from the relaxing waters of the Indian Ocean. You are encouraged to snorkel from the boat, and you also have time to relax on one of the beautiful beaches of the island.

Mauritius has a wealth of activities orientated around its environment.

A nature park close to Port Louis, Domaine Les Pailles, covers 3000 acres at the foot of a mountain range. There are deer and rare birds in the park, and if you like a bit of adrenaline, Land Rover ‘safaris’ and quad biking are also available.

The island has a stunning botanical garden called Pamplemousses, it’s known to naturalists throughout the world for its large collection of indigenous and exotic palms, and the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies. It is well worth paying for a guide to take you around the gardens as their knowledge and tit-bits of information make the visit all the more enjoyable.

A unique feature in Mauritius is Chamarel, an area of undulating land stretching in contrasting layers of color, the patches of blue, green, red and yellow earth, all believed to be the results of weathering.

Mauritius is well known to ornithologists and the Casela Bird Park is set in the area of Black River, and stretches over 20 acres. There are more than 140 varieties of birds, from 5 continents. The main attraction is the Mauritian Pink Pigeon, one of the rarest birds in the world.

The beautiful flower of Ylang with its fragrant yellow flowers, is grown in a plantation called Le Domaine de l’Ylang Ylang. Here the perfume is distilled over panoramic views over the bay of Vieux Grand Port, where the neighboring islets can be seen.

Trips around the island can be booked from your hotel, with luxury holidays in Mauritius to a variety of hotels including the Shandrani can be arranged through Beachcomber Tours. For more information visit www.beachcombertours.co.uk or call 01483 445610.

The Most Exciting Way to Spend the Summer

The Most Exciting Way to Spend the Summer

Going on a cruise is probably one of the best wayto spend the holidays. You get to travel to different parts of the world where the cruise ship docks: from the sunny tropical isles of the Caribbean, the exotic ports of the Mediterranean and even as far away as the snowbound fjords of Alaska. Also, today’s cruise ships are veritable floating hotels or even floating cities with a complete array of recreational facilities and top-notch luxury amenities.

Most people spend up to a maximum of 10, 000 dollars per week to go on a cruise. What if you have the chance to enjoy the cruise ship experience for free and also get paid for it? Sounds like a tall tale, isn’t it? But it is actually quite possible by getting a job on a cruise ship. There are even cruise ship summer jobs for students too. If you love taking an adventure, meeting lots of people and have that wanderlust within you, a summer job on a cruise ship is the best option.

What are the perks and benefits of working on a luxury cruise ship? This kind of job actually has numerous rewards. Some of the most common perks of working on a cruise ship are the following. You will not only earn by taking up a cruise ship summer job, but you also get to save up money within a short period of time since almost all your expenses within the ship such as accommodation, food, medical care, and others, will be taken care of by the cruise line.

Of course, another advantage of a cruise ship summer job is that you get to travel in style to the top destinations of the world and get paid for it. Probably, no other overseas job offers the same variety and fun as a job on a cruise ship. In fact, you will not be working on only one country but will get to experience the sights and sounds of the different countries where the cruise ship calls.

There are hundreds of jobs on board cruise ships as well as cruise company headquarters on land. It’s just a matter of finding the right job that fits your skills and abilities. Cruise lines hire people with knowledge and expertise in any of the following: hospitality, entertainment, customer relations, marketing, healthcare, fitness, tourism, accounting and so much more. These cruise lines also look for people who are naturally outgoing and have a positive attitude which is especially helpful when on board a ship along with thousands of tourists who want to experience the best holiday.

How to find a cruise ship summer job?

The first step is to know who the key companies in the cruise ship industry are such as Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruises – the big three of the cruise ship industry. There are also smaller cruise ship companies and specialty cruise lines. Cruise liners offer different programs and facilities ranging from spas, salons, music bars, sports facilities, and many more. Choose a job that you are interested in and probably have some knowledge about. Your education, as well as your previous work experience, will prove to be helpful when applying for a cruise ship summer job.

Just a tip: before you send your resume, it will be a great advantage if you learn at least one new language. It is also highly recommended to get your CPR or Lifesaving Certification, as this will definitely be a plus.

Winter Playground In France

The Resort

Val D’Isère is a long thin resort which combined with Tignes forms part of the vast Espace Killy, ranked amongst the top 5 luxury ski holidays in Europe.

The central area is made up of Val Village, where everyone gathers at night for very lively après-ski, and the satellite mini-resorts of La Daille and Le Fornet are all linked by a free bus service. La Daille, the first village you will encounter upon leaving the last tunnel is close to some great slopes whilst Le Fornet sits at the far end of the Isere valley.

Considered by many to be a premier ski resort Val D’Isère offers outstanding skiing from late November to early May and is the perfect choice for intermediates and advanced skiers. Its ideal ski conditions, guaranteed snow and lively atmosphere off the slopes make it a perfect draw for all. Renowned for its après ski activities concentrated around Rue Principale, Val D’Isère entertainment ranges from lively bars to exquisite tea rooms. With neighboring Tignes, this region is one of Europe’s key winter playgrounds.

Val D’Isère is also a great family resort with plenty of local nurseries and ski schools catering for children of all ages. Other activities include dog sledding, snowmobiling, and paragliding.

On the Snow in France

The combined area is collectively known as Espace Killy. There are 90 ski lifts, 300km runs, and a modern hands-free lift pass system. Eight entry points provide access to the mountain including the high-speed gondola from the village center and the underground funicular from La Daille. From here a network of pistes and lifts lead towards Tignes on one side and on the other Rocher du Charvet. The OK downhill course, also from the top of Bellevarde is a moderately demanding but enjoyable route down to La Daille.

Due to the quality of the snow allowing for outstanding powder skiing Val D’Isère is the home of off-piste skiing and free ride. Those prepared for some serious off-piste skiing will find themselves spoilt for choice by the variety of pistes. Hire the experience of a local guide and try the Face du Charvet, a steep powder classic accessed from the Grand Pré chair.

The lift system at Val D’Isère is both fast and efficient, a good choice for borders – plus there are very few drag-lifts. There’s is also a terrain park just above La Daille gondola, offering excellent facilities for both park beginners and experts.
